The Dr. Zaeem H. Jafri Endowment Fund has been established under the Resource Development and Alumni Affairs (RD&AA) office and seeks to establish a scholarship fund in perpetuity to fund scholarships for the National Outreach Program (NOP) students at LUMS. The fund has been created to honor Dr. Zaeem Jafri’s contributions to LUMS as an institution and his belief in the students as agents of change.

The aim of this fund is, to quote from his last message he wrote for LUMUN Heritage document, “to keep the fire burning, and to keep the commitment sacred.”

LUMUN Loses its Founding Patron

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the demise of our founding patron, Dr. Zaeem H. Jafri, who passed away on November 14, 2009 after a protracted illness.

Dr. Zaeem H. JafriDr. Zaeem’s contribution to LUMUN has been invaluable. Under his guidance and commitment, LUMUN was established as a society to introduce the Model UN simulation in Pakistan in 2002. Since then, he had been involved in every minor and major affair of the society and brought it to where it stands today.

However, he was more than just a patron for LUMUN. He was an inspirational teacher, an impeccable administrator and, most importantly, a compassionate father figure to all of us. His unwavering dedication to his job and LUMUN, despite his ill health, make him a role model that most of us aspire to be. While he handed over the patronship of LUMUN to Amb. Shahrayar M. Khan recently, he kept abreast of all our activities. With his demise, LUMUN has truly lost its greatest pillar of strength.

May Allah receive him in His Grace and give his family the strength to bear this immeasurable loss.
