Eurasia MUN is a cooperative United Nations simulation organized by LUMUN since 2008 in the spirit of fostering closer ties between Asia and Europe through dialogue and debate. The first Eurasia MUN conference took place in collaboration with the University of Geneva, Geneva Switzerland, in the summer of 2008. The second Eurasia MUN conference was organized in union with the University of Passau, Passau, Germany in May 2010.
Concept of Eurasia MUN
As its name indicates, the Eurasia MUN conference focuses on themes particularly relevant to the relations between Europe and Asia. Such topics could include the impact of terrorism on the international relations between Asia and Europe, energy distribution, and conflicts that are pivotal to nations of the two continents.
Today it is important to have a profound understanding of the different links within the Eurasian continent. Various Asian nations and cultures are becoming increasingly important and influential in economic, social and cultural aspects in the European world, and vice versa.
Despite this imminent move towards cohesion, distinct differences still exist between the two continents in terms of their customs and moral concepts. However, mutual respect, confidence as well as cultural comprehension create the basis for cooperation on an intercontinental and intercultural level. And that is what Eurasia MUN aims to achieve.
Eurasia MUN aspires to bring together students of Asian, European but also other diverse backgrounds in order to create such understanding and to enable valuable and long-lasting cultural exchange.
The third annual Eurasia MUN Conference will tentatively be held in June 2011 at the University of Passau, Passau, Germany. For further details, visit the conference website www.eurasiamun.org
