Eurasia MUNEurasiaMUN is a cooperative United Nations simulation, organised with LUMUN (Pakistan). It first took place in summer 2008 in Geneva and is now being planned for a further edition.

Why “EurasiaMUN”?

EurasiaMUN focuses on topics particulary relevant to the relations between Europe and Asia. Such Topics could be the impact of terrorism on the international relations between Asia and Europe, energy distribution, or conflicts with major interest of the two continents.

Today it is important to have a profound understanding of the different links within the eurasian continent. Various Asian nations and cultures are becoming increasingly important and influencial in economic, social and cultural aspects in our world.

The two continents differ in terms of customs and moral concepts. However, mutual respect, confidence as well as cultural comprehension create the basis for cooperation on an intercontinental and intercultural level.

EurasiaMUN has the aim to bring together students of asian, european but also other backgrounds in order to create such understanding and to enable valuable cultural exchange.

Concept

At the EurasiaMUN Conference, delegates will simulate four different UN bodies, such as the Security Council and the Economic and Social Coucil. Each council will consist of two chairs and 20 – 30 delegates. Chairs as well as delegates will be from different origins, including at least the two continents Asia and Europe.

Delegates are students or recent graduates from all over the world, who slip into the role of an official representative of a United Nations member state for the length of the conference. Delegates should,  represent a country different from her or his own country of origin.

Each council is led by two Chairs, who with their personal knowledge and preperation assure formal and informal debating according to UN procedures. The whole conference is under the supervision of two Secretary Generals. The SGs assist the Chairs and, if necessary, can intervene into the proceeding of the conference.

Team

The organisation consist of two teams, one in Pakistan and one in Switzerland. Both of them are led by one co-Secretary-General and a Conference Manager. Currently the Pakistani team has already been chosen, whilst GIMUN is recruiting interested students for the posts in Switzerland.
