LUMUN: An Overview

The Lahore University of Management Sciences Model United Nations Society (LUMUN) was founded in 2002 by a few ambitious B.Sc. students with the aim of creating awareness about global issues facing our world today while also providing a forum for young delegates to speak their minds through meaningful and well-informed debate.

LUMUN is an entirely student-run, not-for-profit organization that has organized intra-LUMS, national and international Model UN conferences on a regular basis since its inception.

LUMUN members have participated in a large number of international MUNs and have even won the prestigious Best Delegation award multiple times at the Harvard WorldMUN conferences throughout the years.

LUMUN has strived to share its experience and exposure with as many Pakistani students as possible in an attempt to pass on the valuable knowledge and skills gained by its members as a result of participating in many international conferences.

One of the ways it does this is through the annual LUMUN conference in Lahore. This has grown in size and standing until it is now the largest and one of the most prestigious student conferences in South Asia. LUMUN ‘08 was attended by over 1000 delegates from all over Pakistan and abroad.

At LUMUN conferences delegates assume the role of ambassadors of various countries of the world, engaging in debate on crucial issues of global concern. In the process, delegates produce standard UN format resolutions that present practical solutions to pressing international issues under debate. Delegates also have an opportunity to socialize and forge life-long associations.

In addition to all this LUMUN has, in partnership with GIMUN (Geneva International Model United Nations) founded a new, independent MUN in Switzerland called the Eurasia MUN. The first Eurasia MUN conference was held in August 2008 in Geneva and was a great success.
